Dr Nicolete Burbach

Dr Nicolete Burbach is the Social and Environmental Justice Lead at the London Jesuit Centre. Her PhD thesis looked at Pope Francis’ hermeneutics of uncertainty, and her research focuses on resourcing Pope Francis to think through issues of alienation and disagreement, with a particular focus on navigating the difficulties around trans inclusion in the Church. Previously, she has taught modules on postmodern theology and Catholic Social Teaching, both at Durham University.

Brian Purfield

Brian Purfield

Brian is a tutor in the theology stream. Originally from Birmingham, Brian studied philosophy and theology at the Gregorian University, Rome and later gained a Masters Degree in Franciscan Studies from St. Bonaventure’s University, New York. He has given retreats and courses throughout the UK and Ireland, North America, the Far East and Australia. He taught at the International Franciscan Study, Canterbury and at Campion House, Osterley before joining the Mount Street Jesuit Team when it began in 2004. Brian also taught at Heythrop College on the Foundation Degree in Pastoral Ministry. His particular interest is in opening up the Scriptures to people, young and old, at a level that they can understand and seek to apply to their daily lives. Brian is married to Deborah who works for CAFOD. They live in Buckinghamshire.

Mgr Malachy Keegan

Mgr Malachy Keegan is a Catholic priest, ordained 51 years ago, and an accredited, practising psychotherapist for almost 20 years. He has worked in the U.K. and Europe, Africa, India, North and South America often among poor and traumatised people. He studied Psychology and Spirituality at the University of Berkeley, California as well as in the UK. He worked in prisons in the UK and Europe for 14 years with people who have both suffered immense trauma in their own lives and have inflicted trauma on others. He has been chaplain to a Religious community of Contemplatives as well as a hospital and school chaplain. He is presently a Parish Priest, near Croydon in South London.

Rosie Pike

Rosie Pike became interested in Ignatian spirituality ten years ago, and later trained as a spiritual director through the Ignatian Spirituality course. Before then she was a lay pastor for many years in a small evangelical church in Southwest London. She divides her time between spiritual direction and training, voluntary work in her local church and community and anti-knife crime initiatives in her local area. She has studied theology, biology, bereavement counselling and nursing.

He was also the founder director of the London Centre for Spirituality, which opened in 2001, and director of the St Marylebone Healing and Counselling Centre from 2015 to 2017. His books include Journey into Joy: Stations of the Resurrection (SPCK, 2001) and On Retreat: A Lenten Journey (Bloomsbury, 2011). His hobbies include dog walking, sea swimming and gardening.

Clare Bick joined the spirituality team at the London Jesuit centre in April 2021 and enjoys all aspects of the work there, including spirituality and training courses, hosting regular guided prayer sessions and offering retreats in various forms. Clare is a spiritual director and supervisor and has many years of pastoral experience in the context of ecumenical lay community. She is married, with 3 adult children and has recently become a grandmother.

Mgr Malachy Keegan

Mgr Malachy Keegan is a Catholic priest, ordained 51 years ago, and an accredited, practising psychotherapist for almost 20 years. He has worked in the U.K. and Europe, Africa, India, North and South America often among poor and traumatised people. He studied Psychology and Spirituality at the University of Berkeley, California as well as in the UK. He worked in prisons in the UK and Europe for 14 years with people who have both suffered immense trauma in their own lives and have inflicted trauma on others. He has been chaplain to a Religious community of Contemplatives as well as a hospital and school chaplain. He is presently a Parish Priest, near Croydon in South London.

Originally from Birmingham, Brian studied philosophy and theology at the Gregorian University, Rome and later gained a Masters Degree in Franciscan Studies from St. Bonaventure’s University, New York. He has given retreats and courses throughout the UK and Ireland, North America, the Far East and Australia. He taught at the International Franciscan Study, Canterbury and at Campion House, Osterley before joining the Mount Street Jesuit Team when it began in 2004. Brian also taught at Heythrop College on the Foundation Degree in Pastoral Ministry. His particular interest is in opening up the Scriptures to people, young and old, at a level that they can understand and seek to apply to their daily lives. Brian is married to Deborah who works for CAFOD. They live in Buckinghamshire.

Dr Stuart Jesson

Stuart is the Theology Lead at LJC. He graduated with a degree in Literature and Theology from the University of Hull in 2000. From 2003-9 he studied Philosophical Theology part-time at the University of Nottingham, whilst continuing to work in the third sector with vulnerably-housed or homeless people, and young asylum seekers (as well as pulling pints in a pub). He was Lecturer at York St John University for almost a decade, before moving to London Jesuit Centre in 2021. He now lives in South East London, and spends as much time as he can in the woods.

He is an accredited teacher of trauma-aware yoga, with specialist qualifications in breath-work and addiction recovery. His favourite modes of transport are bicycle and kayak.

Rosie Pike

Rosie Pike became interested in Ignatian spirituality ten years ago, and later trained as a spiritual director through the Ignatian Spirituality course. Before then she was a lay pastor for many years in a small evangelical church in Southwest London. She divides her time between spiritual direction and training, voluntary work in her local church and community and anti-knife crime initiatives in her local area. She has studied theology, biology, bereavement counselling and nursing.

Mary Goggin

Mary Goggin is a member of the extended spirituality team at the London Jesuit Centre where she facilitates courses and offers spiritual accompaniment. She is from Ireland and has lived in London for the past forty years. She enjoys walking and wine.

Her PhD thesis looked at Pope Francis’ hermeneutics of uncertainty, and her research focuses on resourcing Pope Francis to think through issues of alienation and disagreement, with a particular focus on navigating the difficulties around trans inclusion in the Church. Previously, she has taught modules on postmodern theology and Catholic Social Teaching, both at Durham University.
